Ensuring the functional safety of vehicles is already an extremely complex task. Due to the growing digitalization of the vehicle with a view towards autonomous driving and the increasing interaction of the vehicle with the environment, security verification is steadily becoming more and more complex.
“In addition, an attitude of zero tolerance towards personal injury due to technical malfunctions is currently becoming more widespread in society”, explains Volker Häussler, Head of EDAG's future Competence Centre for Functional Safety & Cyber Security. “For this reason, we are attaching even greater importance to the question of functional safety in our processes.”
To begin with, 25 EDAG experts will be taking up their work in the field of holistic security concepts in Weinheim in the first quarter of 2020. In addition to providing external services for customers (manufacturers and suppliers), the new competence center also uses its expertise to support the EDAG Group's global network of locations within the scope of complex vehicle development projects.
The EDAG Group plans to expand the competence center to over 50 employees by the end of 2020: "We have an independently monitored training program, by means of which we will be systematically introducing our employees to this demanding task. This type of staff qualification is currently an absolutely unique selling point of our company on the market," emphasizes Volker Häussler.
